Some rooms in this city are built exclusively for corporate work and feel like it. The Carder is a wedding house that happens to be extraordinarily good at everything else — which means your team gets the room, the kitchen and the view a couple would have booked it for.

Corporate
Ten minutes by water from the Financial District, and a world away from another hotel ballroom. The island itself does the work a team-building budget usually has to: nobody checks their phone on the ferry back.
Galas and benefits
Two hundred and fifty seated with a dance floor, a column-free room that photographs well from any angle, and a genuinely memorable arrival — which matters when the arrival is the first thing a donor experiences.
Launches and press
A room with exposed brick and twenty-eight-foot rafters that needs very little dressing, plus half an acre of waterfront for anything that wants sky above it.
Milestone celebrations
Anniversaries, birthdays, bar and bat mitzvahs. The Bridal Suite seats twelve for a private dinner at the small end; the ballroom holds 299 at the other.
Service
Four ways to feed a room.
Everything is built by our Michelin-starred kitchen on site — we have a full commercial kitchen in the building, not a warming station.
Plated
Coursed and served to the seat. The most formal option and the easiest to run to a tight timeline.
Family style
Platters down the centre of the table. Warmer, louder, and the fastest way to get a room of strangers talking.
Stations
Self-service throughout the room. Keeps guests moving and works particularly well alongside a long cocktail hour.
Passed hors d’oeuvres
Five canapés are included as standard, passed through cocktail hour.
Worth knowing
The logistics are real, and we will be straight about them.
Everything arrives by ferry — your guests, your vendors, and every case of wine. That constraint is the reason the island feels the way it does, and it is also the first thing we will discuss with any vendor you bring. We are not precious about who works here; we are exacting about whether they understand the boat.
The last public ferry leaves at 11:30pm on weekend event nights. Private charters, pre-approved by the Trust for Governors Island, run from $2,500 for a single run and $7,500 or more for a multi-hour block. Extra hours at the venue are $1,500 each.
